PESHAWAR - Position holder girl students, who outclassed boys in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Intermediate annual examination 2012 session, have been awarded gold medals.
To award gold medals and cash prizes to these position holders, a ceremony was held here at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Examination (BISE) Peshawar on Friday, in which Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Secondary Education, Sardar Hussain Babak was chief guest.
On the occasion, all the top position holders were awarded with medals and cash prizes. 
In science group a girl student Samra Ghazal of Peshawar Model Girls High School was awarded Gold Medal and a cash prize of Rs 50000 for grabbing top position in the SSC annual examination 2012. While the two sisters Hira Motasim and Sidra Motasim of the same Peshawar Model School succeeded in clinching the Silver and Bronze medal and cash prizes of Rs.45000 and Rs40000 respectively in the same group.
Similarly, Ujala Tahir, the student of Forward Girls High School, was awarded Gold Medal and a cash prize Rs.50000 for getting top position. Likewise, Hira Farooq, the student of Girls High School, PAF Shaheen camp and Mashal Najeeb, the student of Farward Girls Public High School, were awarded Silver and Bronze medals and cash prizes of Rs45000 and Rs40000 for securing second and third position respectively in the SSC annual exams held under BISE, Peshawar.
Similarly, in the Intermediate Pre-Medical Group the girl students of Jinnah College for Women Peshawar(JCWP) including Muzhda Subhan, Saba Noor and Mushal Shahab were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and cash prizes of Rs.50000, 45000 and 40000 for getting top, second and third position respectively. While in the Pre-Engineering Group, a student of JCW, Saamia Rehan was awarded Gold Medal and cash prize of Rs.50000 for achieving top position. The male students Mohsin Khan son of Amanullah and Saadullah Jan of Islamia College were awarded Silver and Bronze medals and cash prize of Rs.45000 and Rs.40000 to each respectively.
Likewise, in the General Science Group three female students of the JCMP Sidra, Rimsha Sabir and Farha Iqbal receive Gold, Silver and Bronze medals with cash prizes of Rs50000, Rs45000 and Rs.40000 respectively. In the Humanities Group, Wajiha Riaz, Ramina Majid and Farhana students of JCWM, PMDCW and JCWP obtained Gold, Silver and Bronze medals along with Rs50000, Rs.45000 and Rs.40000 cash prizes.
In Theology Group Saddam Shehzad student of Jamia Usmania got Gold medal with Rs.50000 cash while in Oriental languages group Rukhsana as a private candidate obtained Gold Medal.
Besides, the three best athletes among male and female students who are Abdul Wahab, Asma Khan of ICP received Gold medals collectively, while a female Naila Javid of JCWP also got Gold medal.
While congratulating the shining students and their parents, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Sardar Hussain Babak said that the ANP government has done a lot for the betterment of education by ensuring basic facilities, upgrading teachers scale, making drastic changes in syllabus and re-operating over 1700 closed schools and introducing basic education in mother tongue.
He, however, said that still a lot needs to be done as the education sector has totally been ignored in the past. In last five years, “we focused on education, because, it is the only way to get rid of the situation, we are facing there days”. These steps would certainly produce positive results especially enhancing education standard in the KPK, he explained.
The ANP government made drastic changes in syllabus, as that the old one, was unable to overcome the challenges, the nation was ahead with these days. “To attract and improve education level in womenfolk, we approved giving Rs200 monthly stipend to female students, as we wanted to remove that black stigma that people of this region are against female education, he added.
Currently, the KPK government is spending Rs 81 billion on education, besides being backed by various donor agencies financially, adding that still there was need to do more for formal teachers training and capacity building. The present government, he said had established 9 more new universities in the province during last five years as well as setup sub-campuses as well. He said that education needed too much attention and the government cannot cater this responsibility alone. He appealed well-off people of the province to come forwards and invest in this sector with a purpose to make future of coming generations secure.
He said that Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has formally launched distributing laptops among talented students and under the same programme all deserving students would be give laptops soon. By equipping youngsters with education “we can compete with militancy” he said. Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were Chairman BISE, Peshawar Prof. Dr. Mohamamd Shafi Afridi, Secretary Hakim Ullah, Controller of Examination Prof. Mussawar Jan Durrani and Director Registration Mehdi Jan.
In his speech, Chairman BISE, Peshawar, Professor Dr. Mohammad Shafi Afridi said that BISE, Peshawar, was working hard to facilitate students at their doorstep. He said that data computerization of the decades old record of the board was in final stage.
He said that BISE, Peshawar, was mother of all board. The government was fully assisting them. He said that efforts were on to give maximum relief to students.
“We are on way to modularization in the board. We have already introduced receiving examination results through SMS, which is not only time-saving but also have an easy access to students of far-off areas of the province,” he concluded.
