QUETTA - Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for ensuring provision of technical and vocational training for special children.
This was said in an event jointly organised by Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) and Balochistan Disabled Persons Complex for Special Education, Directorate of Social Welfare here on Tuesday.
Delivering his speech, Provincial Secretary of Social Welfare and Special Education, Bilal Jamali, said all segments of the society would have to come forward to ensure provision of technical and profession training to special children in order to save them from financial difficulties in future.
Regional Manager of SPARC Muhammad Hanif Khan Panezai said that unfortunately, some parents did not pay attention for education of their special children.
“If society pays same attention to special children like that normal children, this step would be helpful in making them useful citizen who would not depend on others in respect of financial issues for his or her needs and requirements,” he said. On this occasion, Panezai announced some financial assistance for Complex for Special Education Quetta, including uniforms, shoes, socks and sweaters for 465 students besides items for hostel of the complex including 100 mattress, 200 bed sheets, 100 pillows, 100 vicky razai, 30 curtains with stitching, 100 chairs for dining table wooden and four UPS with Volta battery.
Civil society activist Surayya Allah Din recalled that during visit to a small school in Quetta, then, President, Gen. Ziaul Haque wondered whether there was no single complex in the provincial capital for special children. “Gen. Ziaul Haque issued orders to then Chief Secretary Balochistan on the occasion and Complex for Special Education was constructed within a short period,” she recalled. Principal, Complex for Special Education Quetta, Musarrat Jabeen Durrani urged the society to play its due role for protection of rights of the special children besides ensuring their education. She passed special thanks to SPARC for extending financial and other collaboration in organising the programme and to the educational institution.
