Women Protection Act challenged in FSC

ISLAMABAD - The Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act 2016 has been challenged in the Federal Shariat Court (FSC), after dismissal of a petition by Lahore High Court to declare it void.
Dr Aslam Khaki, a professor of Islamic Law and advocate of Supreme Court, had moved the petition under Article 203-B, C and D of Constitution. He prayed that the whole Act may be examined in the light of Quran and Sunnah, while section 7(d) & (e), of the Act 2016 be declared un-Islamic and hence void being repugnant to Islam as provided in Quran and Suannah.
He said though the Act seemed to be combating violence but it will not serve the purpose as some of its sections are repugnant to Islam in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
Dr Khaki said these provisions need to be declared void as provided in Act 203-D of Constitution. The Act is unilateral and gender biased.
