5 more die as no letup in Karachi target killing

KARACHI At least five people, including two activists of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), were killed in separate incidents of target killing in the provincial capital. Two armed motorcyclists attacked two activists of ASWJ, formerly known as banned outfit Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) when they were on their way to home on a bike at underpass in the Liaquatabad Police limits, killing them on the spot. Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that two armed men reached on a motorcycle and open indiscriminate firing, killing 28-year-old Abu Hashim and his friend Zubair. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities and handed over the bodies to the families after autopsy. Scores ASWJ workers rushed to hospital and chanted slogan against the government and the law enforcement agencies to protest the killing of their companions. Some angry protesters burnt tyres and chanted slogans against rival sect, sparking panic among the residents of several areas, including Liaquatabad and Sarjani where unidentified miscreants. Inquiry Officer (IO) ASI Mubeen Tariq said Abu Hashim sustained three bullets and Zubair two, adding that police recovered five empty shells 9-MM from the scene. Abu Hashim was a student of DJ Science College, while Zubair was the student of NED Engineering University. The deceased were going home after attending the Seeratun Nabi Conference held at Bandhani Colony Liaquatabad. Hashim and Zubair were laid to rest in the local graveyards of Sarjani and Liaquatabad. Police have registered case of double murder. Separately, father of five Sardar Muhammad Akakhel was shot dead and another was injured when he was sitting in a spare parts shop in Gulshan View on Abdul Hassan Isphani Road. According to police the incident occurred in the limits of Sacchal Police.
