Fraudsters spree rampant in Sadiqabad

OUR STAFF REPORTER SADIQABAD - A local hosing scheme administration has allegedly sold two plots purchased by an Islamabad based couple anew. The Sadiqabad police have registered a case against six persons including Sajjad Ahmad, the project director of the scheme, other officials Sultan, Riaz and three women. Mrs Ruhi, in his complaint submitted to the local police, explained that she purchased a seven-marla plot for her husband Majeed Aslam and another three-marla plot for herself on instalments in the housing scheme. After paying a sum of Rs 400,000 in instalments in two years, she added, they have come to know that the scheme administration has sold the same plots to other customers and plundered their money. Likewise in another incident, police have arrested the landowners who were allegedly stealing canal water in connivance with some Irrigation Department officials. The police apprehended Sarwar and Abdul Majeed red handed while stealing water through pipes from the Talewala canal of Chak 126/P of Sadiqabad and also impounded the material. During preliminary interrogation, the accused told the police that they had given a huge kickback to Irrigation Department Overseer Abdul Hameed in this regard. Similarly, police have registered a case against a friend for issuing fake cheque in Gulshan Usman. Muhammad Imran Aslam told the police that his friend Matloob Ahmad borrowed Rs 120,000 from him and later gave the former a bank cheque in order to return the money. However, the cheque turned to be bogus when the lender contacted the bank branch concerned in order to withdraw the money. Separately, a transformer installed in Kabirwala area of Tajpur was stolen at late yesterday night. Mianwali Qureshian Subdivision SDO wrote to the police that thieves had stolen the transformer worth hundreds and thousands of rupees leaving the area in darkness. The police have registered a case against unknown thieves and started investigation. On the call of Markazi Anjman-e-Tajran, a complete strike was observed here in City Ahmedpur East in protest against power loadshedding. All markets and shopping centres remained closed on the occasion. Meanwhile President Markazi Anjman-e-Tajran Mian Mohammad Younas condemned PPP led-federal government which had ruined all national institutions and looting national exchequer with both hands. He demanded President Asif Ali Zardari and Premier Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to step down and caretaker government be set up for the holding of general elections. Talking to newsmen, he thanked traders and businessmen for observing a peaceful strike in City.
