B'pur Railway Station, colony in a shambles

BAHAWALPUR=-Potable water at Railways Station Bahawalpur has been "denied" to the passengers for the last 11 days, adding to the problems of the passengers who also face unavailability of toilets and waiting rooms facilities, it is learnt. The passengers of economy class have been deprived of waiting rooms and forced to wait for trains for hours by sitting on benches in the hot weather amid loadshedding. Condition of public toilets at the station is also very bad and due to non-availability of sewerage lines at the station and Railways Colony, sewerage water is flowing on the roads.Train passengers and Railways Colony's residents have been deprived of water as the tube well providing water is out of order for the last 11 days. Therefore, the passengers are facing severe difficulties. Even grass in the Railway Station ground has dried and plants are dying.Waiting rooms are available only for Lower AC and Parlor Class passengers but 80 to 90 percent of the passengers travel through economy class and there is no place for them to sit while waiting for trains in the days when electricity has also gone scarce and ladies with their children are forced to wait on benches.Situation of toilets is also very bad and people are facing problems due to non-provision of water in the toilets. Passenger Khalid Mehmood said that let alone cold drinkable water, even normal water was not available on the Bahawalpur Railways Station. "When we ask about water, we are told that water is not available for the last 11 days due to the out-of-order tube well. Thus, we are forced to buy bottled water to quench our thirst," he added. Muhammad Fiaz said that in Bahawalpur, most of the people travel in the economy class but it was very sad that there are no waiting rooms for the people travelling in the economy class. Muhammad Tariq said that the condition of toilets was very bad and due to unavailability of water, there is very bad smell which irritates the passers-by. Besides, the LCD TVs installed a few years earlier at the station are seen no more here. Station Master Bahawalpur Muhammad Aleem Durrani when contacted said that due to problem regarding the tube well, water is not available. He added that the high authorities had been informed about the situation. He hoped that along with other problems, the problem about water would also be resolved soon.
