200 suspects held in Quetta

QUETTA - Quetta police and personnel of Frontier Corps on Thursday rounded up more than 200 suspects in joint raids from different parts of the provincial capital in connection with twin suicide blasts. Police and FC have formed different teams to investigate the suicide blasts outside the residence of DIG FC Brigadier Farrukh Shahzad at Insumb Road on Wednesday morning that killed 28 people, including a Colonel and wife of DIG, and left more than 60 people with critical wounds. Sources within police said, police backed by FC carried out raids at different areas of Quetta including Kharotabad, Pakhtunabad and Nawa Killi and arrested more than 200 suspects including Afghan nationals. Some Uzbek nationals were also among suspects who were arrested at check post while travelling to Quetta. However, deputy Inspector General (DIG-Investigations) Nazir Kurd while talking to media persons confirmed that more 160 suspects had been arrested so far from different areas who were being interrogated. Inspector General Police Rao Amin Hashim has constituted a four-member investigation team headed by DIG-Investigation Nazir Kurd to probe into the twin suicide blasts on daily basis and submit its report. Sources said Inspector General Frontier Corps Obaidullah Khan has also formed a committee to investigate double bombing which had started investigation. An FIR of suicide blasts was registered in Civil Lines police station against unknown terrorists. On the other hand, the death toll climbs to 28 as another injured identified as Muhammad Ismail succumbed to his injuries in Bolan Medical Complex Hospital. Hospital sources said condition of some injured is still serious. The provincial capital gave a deserted look on the second day of blast as most of the main business and trade centres remained closed and people also preferred to stay at home. Meanwhile, security was beefed up at Pak-Afghan border Chaman and the entry of Afghan nationals who were travelling to Pakistan without valid documents was stopped. It may be mentioned here that police the other day claimed to have identified one of the suicide attackers as Ahmed Gul, 21-year-old Afghan national.
