SIALKOT-The PML-N won the seats of mayor and deputy mayor of Municipal Corporation Sialkot unopposed as no candidate had submitted nomination papers against the PML-N candidates.
PML-N candidate Ch Tauheed Akhtar was elected unopposed as the Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation while Ch Bashir Ahmed was also elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation.
The elected mayor is a leading exporter and also the former chairman of Sialkot International Airport.
He is also very close associate of Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Sialkot based Federal Minister for Defense, Water and Power.
The elected deputy mayor is also a leading exporter of Sialkot. The other main political parties including PTI, PPP, PML-Q and Jamaat-e-Islami did not show interest in the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation, as they did not field their candidates against the PML-N candidates.
In Sialkot, the jubilant PML-N activists and exporters came out on the roads to celebrate the victory.
They distributed sweets and also danced on the drum beats in PML-N Central Office Paris Road Sialkot here. They also greeted each other on this victory.
Meanwhile, the PML-N has finalised the name of Hina Arshad Warraich as its candidate for the slot of chairperson of district Council Sialkot. She is the daughter of Sambrial based MPA Arshad Javaid Warraich.
She will be the first ever female head of the Zila Council Sialkot after election in the history of Sialkot district.
The PML-N leadership has also announced the names of three candidates for the three seats of vice chairmen of District Council. These candidates would Raza Subhani Advocate, younger brother of Variyo Family's scion and MNA Armughan Subhani, Jamil Ashraf Baryar, former MPA and elder brother of MPA Mohsin Ashraf Baryar, and Malik Ziyafat Ali Awan, who is backed by the Variyo family.
The elections for the heads of the local bodes would be held on December 22, 2016 in Sialkot district as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
Khawaja Asif finalised the names while presiding over a meeting of the UC Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and councilors from all over Sialkot district held at his residence at Sialkot Cantt.
All the local MNAs and MPAs from Sialkot district except Daska based MNA Sahibzada Syed Iftikhar Hassan Shah attended the meeting.
According to the MNA Ch. Armughan Subhani, the Federal Minister Khawaja reviewed the prevailing the LB political scenario ahead of the elections of the heads of the Local Bodies in Sialkot district here.
ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: A total of 307,784 children will be administered anti-polio drops during the three-day anti-polio campaign, to be started on Dec 19 in Narowal district.
Narowal DCO Rafaqat Ali Niswana said while addressing a meeting with officials of the Health Department here the other day.
The DCO informed that the health department has formed 1,206 teams to conduct door-to-door anti-polio campaign in the district.
