Fatima Surraiya Bajia passes away

Famous drama writer Fatima Surraiya Bajia has passed away at the age of 85. She had been ill for the last few days.

According to the media sources Bajiya, who is also the sister of famous writer Anwar Maqsood and Zubaida Aapa resided in Karachi. She was given Sitara-e-Imtiaz by Pakistan government and has been posted as the CM Sindh advisor in past.

Bajia was born on September 1, 1930 in Karnataka, India and migrated to Pakistan after the partition. She is among the pioneer writers of Pakistan Radio and TV. She wrote from different TV stations like Lahore and Karachi. She never went to a formal school and got her education at home.

She started her career from Islamabad TV station in 1966 as an actor. She then moved to writing dramas which became the reason of her fame.

Mehman was her first drama. She wrote number of famous TV dramas like Ana, Agahi, Babar, Ghar Aik Nagar, Arzoo, Sassi Punno, Anarkali, Auraq and many others. She received number of awards from Pakistan and around the world.
