Karzai phones Zardari to exchange Eid greetings

Afghan President Hamid Karzai Sunday phoned President Asif Ali Zardari to exchange Eid greetings. Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that President Zardari thanked his Afghan counterpart for his call on the occasion of Eidul Fitr and conveyed, on his own behalf and on behalf of the people of Pakistan, Eid greetings to him and to the people of his country. He said that the President also prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the two nations. Discussing Pak-Afghan bilateral relations, President Zardari reiterated that Pakistan was committed to further deepening and broadening fraternal relations with Afghanistan and said that the two countries had covered a long distance in forging closer ties in last few years.
He said that Pakistan remained committed to peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The President said that Pakistan firmly believed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in its own vital interests.
He said that at a time when the brotherly neighboring country was undergoing important transition, “we extend our best wishes to Afghanistan in managing these key milestones.”
The President also reiterated that Pakistan supported an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process and it would continue to play a positive and supportive role in facilitating the reconciliation.
The President said that he looked forward to the visit of his Afghan counterpart to Pakistan, which would further deepen and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
