LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Friday disqualified Rashida Yaqoob and Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi to contest by-elections from PP-78, Jhang, which were scheduled to be held on December 1, 2016.
The bench headed by Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan heard the appeals filed by Sheikh Sheraz Akram and Azhar Abbas challenging eligibility of Rashida Yaqoob and Maulana Ahmad Ludhianvi to contest the by-elections from PP-78, Jhang.
During the hearing, the petitioners’ counsel arguing before the bench submitted that both candidates had filed their nomination papers for contesting by-elections but they were not eligible to contest.
They submitted that an election tribunal de-seated Rashida Yaqoob from PP-78 for concealing facts regarding loans default and getting them written off. The court maintained the election tribunal orders while dismissing her appeal, they added.
The counsels further submitted that Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi was also accused of concealing facts regarding his assets.
They contended that both candidates did not fulfill conditions of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.
The bench after hearing detailed arguments of parties disqualified both candidates to contest by-election from PP-78.
