Inquiry against interior ministry officials ordered

ISLAMABAD - National Accountability Bureau authorised an inquiry against the officials of Ministry of Interior for alleged misuse of authority in award of multi-million dollars contract for establishing a command and network center at Islamabad.
The decision to this effect was taken in the Executive Board meeting of NAB held under the Chairmanship of Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari, in compliance with the Supreme Court order dated August 23, 2012, wherein the apex court had declared the contract illegal and referred to matter to NAB to probe into it and award punishment to all those involved in the matter.
According to details of the project, the Ministry of Interior had awarded US$ 124 million contract to Hauwei Technologies Company Limited for establishing a command and network center at Islamabad wherein serious lapses in award of the contract were found by the apex court and referred the matter to NAB for thorough probe.
In the petition filed in the apex court, the petitioner had also implicated the then Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the case and NAB investigators may call him to question if need be, sources in the NAB informed and made it clear that NAB would conduct the probe into the matter in the most transparent manner and nobody found involved in the case would be spared. The board meeting also authorised verification in a complaint against Tahir Mehmud, Ex-Accountant General AJ&K presently posted in Auditor General of Pakistan and transferred the case to NAB Rawalpindi for further proceedings.
The accused person was alleged for embezzlement of Rs 5.47 million in the funds of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council Secretariat Islamabad.
The Board decided to close an inquiry against Munawar Hussain Cheema, Ex-Additional Deputy Commissioner (Consolidation) Lahore where the accused person was alleged for illegal allotment of resumed land of Qazailbash Waqf (trust) measuring 361K-13M to tenants under Land Reforms 1972.
During inquiry proceedings, allegations against the accused person could not be established. It was also established that no such illegal act had been committed by the accused involving loss to the national exchequer.
The Board also decided to close another inquiry against Aurangzeb Khan, Ex-DO (R&E) Karak, presently serving as Secretary Local Government & Rural Development KP for want of incriminating evidence.
In this case accused person was alleged for accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.
