PESHAWAR - The dissident faction Jamiat Ulamai Islam-Nazriati (JUI-N) will formally re-merge into Jamiat Ulama Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) in the presence of Maulana Fazal Rehman on February 25 next.
Led by former MNA Maulana Asmatullah, the JUI-N has a handsome presence in Pakhtuns dominated areas of Balochistan province.
Maulana Asmatullah also from Balochistan formed the dissident ideological group after developing differences with JUI-F’s central leadership prior to 2008 elections.
However, soon after forming his own group, Maulana Asmatullah had said that he had no difference with Maulana Fazal Rehman, but there are some opportunists within the party, due to which they couldn’t go with JUI-F anymore.
Later, the breakaway faction named JUI-Nazriati was registered with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as a political party-JUI-Nazariati or JUI-N.
Both the parties JUI-F and JUI-N faced each others as rivals mainly in Balochistan, and the latter gave a tough time to the former, which ultimately benefited the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP).
Likewise, in 2008 elections, JUI-N Chief Maulana Asmatullah defeated JUI-F Balochistan Chief Maulana Khan Muhammad Sherani in the NA-264.
Later, the JUI-F elected Maulana Sherani as a Senator and was appointed head of the Council of Islamic Ideology with the status of federal minister.
Moreover, the JUI-N had also won several seats in the provincial assembly and joined the then provincial government in Balochistan.
With the same spirit, Maulana Asmatullah led party was much confident to snatch more seats from the JUI-F in May 2013 general elections, but this time JUI-N did not win even a single seat from Balochistan.
Though differences within the party had existed for about 9 years, the efforts were still on to bring the party on single platform under the leadership of Maulana Fazal Rehman.
In this connection, the JUI-N Chief Maulana Asmatullah met Maulana Fazal Rehman, a few days back in Peshawar, JUI-F Provincial Secretary Information Abdul Jalil Jan said.
He maintained that in the presence of ex-CM KPK Akram Khan Durrani and Shamsur Rehman Shamsi, both Maulana Fazal Rehman and Maulana Asmatullah held a detailed meeting and agreed to remerge JUI-N into JUI-F.
The JUI-F Provincial Secretary Information Abdul Jalil Jan said that in the presence of Maulana Fazal Rehman, a formal announcement of remerging JUI-N into JUI-F would be made in Quetta on February 25 next during a news-conference.
Moreover, Maulana Asmatullah had already submitted an application to the ECP for cancelling the JUI-N’s registration as a political party, Jan concluded.
