HAFIZABAD-The district administration has chalked out a comprehensive plan to meet any eventuality during likely flood in the river Chenab and other nullahs, and feared that according to estimates, 229,368 acres of land and about 300,000 villagers might affect due to the likely flood.
District Relief Officer Nouman Hafeez Kalair said that the district has been bifurcated into two sectors and seven sub sectors and officials have been deputed to affectively control any eventuality.
He said that two sub sectors (Vanike and Pindi Bhattian) have been divided into seven sub sectors including Qadirabad Colony, Beriwala, Muzaffar Nau, Khanpur Adda, Tahli Goraya, Thathi Behlol Pur and Jalalpur Bhattian whereas Government Boys Beriwala, Government High School Kolo Tarar, Government High School No 1 Hafizabad, Sports Stadium Hafizabad, Government High School Pindi Bhattian and Jalalpur Bhattian have been made relief centres for the likely affectees of flood.
He further said that arrangements were being made for the residential facilities and food for the affectees and fodders for the cattle in the relief centres. He added that General Assistant Revenue Shahid Abbas has been appointed as focal person.
He said that Revenue, Health, Livestocks, Rescue-1122, TMA Pindi Bhattian have been directed to prepare a plan according to the District Flood Plan so as to ensure prompt remedial measures during the likely flood. The Livestock Department has been further directed to ensure inoculation of cattle in the river belt area, he added.
DEATH CONDOLED: Local journalists have condoled the death of Muhammad Khalid Sarwar, the managing director of Associated Press of Pakistan. A condolence meeting was held here under the chairmanship of Muhammad Yaqoob Shahzad Amar, the chairman of Press Club Hafizabad, where Fateh was offered for the departed soul. The meeting expressed its heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty Allah for rest of his soul in eternal peace and strength for the family members to bear the irreparable loss.
DACOITY: Two villagers were deprived of cash and cell phones worth thousands of rupees at gunpoint on Kolo Road near Dhigranwali village.
One Tahir Abbas along with his mother of Pindi Bawray was on way to nearby village. When reached Dhigranwali village, they were intercepted by three armed dacoits who snatched away cash and cell phone worth Rs40,000.
