Paragliders dot Nowshera sky

PESHAWAR -  Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday provided an entertaining opportunity to the public specially youth by arranging the first ever paragliding activity of the province at Misri Banda Akora Khattak in district Nowshera.

For the first time in history, the most popular adventurous activity ‘paragliding’ was arranged for the general public at provincial level in which about 20 people including men and women participated.

A day before, the participants were given a ground paragliding training session at Hayatabad Sports Complex Peshawar by the top-notch, well-experienced, full time and professional flight instructors. Polishing skills on the second day, they had ample time for the two solo flights at Misri Banda Akora Khattak. Talking to media, the secretary tourism said that Tourism Corporation always encouraged to engage youth in different recreational activities. He said, “Our aim is to provide best opportunities to the public for progressing in adventurous activities as quickly as possible in a relaxed and friendly environment where safety is paramount. We offer instructional introductory paragliding flights for anyone who would like to experience paragliding”.

“The Tourism Corporation has provided the best environment and facilities which would enable you to learn the flying techniques in short. Tourism Corporation has announced four more paragliding events for the public to experience, scheduled as 19 - 20 Nov, 3 - 4 Dec, 16 - 17 Dec, 30 - 31 December 2016,” he added. As per plan, the two best paragliders in the first four activities will be nominated for the final paragliding activity and will be awarded with souvenirs and certificates.

The registration fee for the activity was 3000 per participants. Besides paragliding facility, the participants were also facilitated in transportation, food, first aid kit and other facilities during the event.

ANNUAL SPORTS GALA CONCLUDES

Staff Reporter from Khyber Agency adds: The annual sports gala at the Government Centennial High School Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency, concluded on Sunday with an aim to enhance extra-curricular activities among students in the area.

The students of different schools demonstrated their talents in football, volleyball, cricket and athletics. The sports gala was organised by the Fata director with the assistance of the political administration of Khyber Agency.

Landi Kotal Tehsildar Irshad Muhmand was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony. Besides, Khyber Agency Agency Education Officer Jadoon Khan and large number government-run schools’ students, sports lovers, teachers and parents attended the event.  Irshad Muhmand congratulated the organisers for initiating an unusual activity in the region which is deeply damaged by terrorism. He said along with education, sports is the essential commodity for healthy minds, adding that great talent lay in sports in the tribal belt, which needs to be streamline.

He further said that the territory of Khyber is rich in sports and its players have shown talent at national level. 

In the final combat of football, the Government Centennial High School Landi Kotal, defeated the Government High School Mohammad Khan while in cricket final Shelman High School outclassed the Government High School Zen Tara.

Similarly, in the volleyball final, the Government High School Zen Tara smashed the Government Gigh School Mohammad Khan Kalley.

At the end of the ceremony, Muhmand distributed trophies and prizes among the winning teams. He also awarded cash prizes of Rs20,000 to the shinning players.
