Doctor abducted in Baluchistan

Quetta: Unidentified gunmen abducted on Wednesday the Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health Program (MNCH) program and official coordinator of the Baluchistan Health Department.

Dr Amir Baksh was kidnapped from Quetta’s Sohrab Road, while he was on his way to the health office from his home on Brawery Road, sources confirmed.

“The four kidnappers stopped Amir Baksh’s car at gun point and kidnapped him,” the Station House Officer said, adding that he was taken to an unknown location.

The doctor hails from Turbat district and had been working on child and maternal health in Baluchistan. Police have commenced an investigation into the incident. As many as 25 doctors have so far been kidnapped, over the past few years in Baluchistan.

While most of the kidnappings have been for ransom, the motive behind the latest kidnapping has not yet been determined.
