TOBA TEK SINGH - Gojra, a tehsel of Toba Tek Singh, has produced 112 international players to the national hockey team. They played international matches, tournaments and Olympic games as well.
Gojra Hockey Stadium is only one at tehsel level in the country which had Astro Turf ground for the players, and several international matches have also been played on the ground. Now, another player from Gojra, Muhammad Toseeq, has made a world record by playing for Pakistan at the age of 17 year in London Olympics.
He was the youngest player among all the teams participating in the games. He was man of the tournament in second boys Under-18 Asia Cup Hockey Tournament played in Burma in December 2009. Consequently, he was given a chance to join Pakistan hockey team when he was just 15-and-a-half-year-old.
Although Pakistan hockey team failed to even elevate up to semifinals in London Olympics and remained on just 7th number but this record set by a young Gojra player in the same games will always be remembered. His father Muhammad Arshad said that Toseeq was the 10th player from his family who reached up to Pakistan hockey team. He said he himself was a hockey player but his dream to join Pakistan hockey team could not be fulfilled.
He said that first one who joined Pakistan hockey team from his family was his elder brother Aslam Roda, who also remained an international hockey coach produced a lot of player to national team and teams of different banks and institutions.
Other eight of his family who remained players in Pakistan hockey team are Toseeq’s uncles Muhammad Asghar, Muhammad Azam, Muhammad Rasheed, Javed Iqbal, Zafar Iqbal and Muhammad Sarwar and two cousins Muhammad Adnan and Imran Aslam Roda.
