Completely lacking basic facilities, Govt Girls Primary School of a far-off bordering village along the Sialkot Working Boundary has only three students enrolled while the total teachers are two.
However, the Education Department has the policy to depute one teacher for 30 to 40 students in a school. The school seems to be a “ghost school” as it lacks classroom, furniture, electricity, water, toilet and boundary walls. Teachers teach the three students while sitting on the muddy ground of the school. Some local villagers have donated a “Charpoi” for the students and teachers to sit on it to get education there.
Rasulpur Bhalliyaan Gulshan Salomi was recruited under minorities’ quota and posted at Govt Girls Primary School, 75km away from her village. She demanded that the government should post her at a school near her home.
She flayed ignoring the choice options of posting asked from her by the Sialkot Education Department. She has to travel almost 75km to reach the far-off school from her village by leaving her house at 04:30am and then changing several local vehicles.
Her family members said that the Education Department was testing her patience as she had been posted at the far off village.
Gulshan Salomi added, “Instead of appointing me at the school near to my village, they (education officials) has appointed me at the school but I have been proving my dedication and dutifulness while joining my duty there.”
When contacted, Sialkot DMO Muhammad Aamir Raza pledged look into the matter and provide facilities at the school.
Police seek public co-op to fight crimes: Sialkot police have urged all the segments of the society to come forward and play their role in establishing peace in the region especially in making Sialkot a crime-free district.
During a meeting, District Police Officer Dr Shehzad Asif briefed the elected public representatives about the ongoing crackdown on notorious proclaimed offenders, outlaws and land grabbers in Sialkot district. He said that special operation was giving encouraging and positive results. He said that the circle has been further tightened around the criminals.
He said that no compromise would be made regarding the misuse of loudspeakers. He said that the police have been facing acute shortage of personnel as there were only 2,100 policemen for protecting about 4 million population of the district. He said that despite the shortage of policemen, the police were giving better performance in controlling crimes.
