Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khurshid Shah today said that dust has not settled over Panama leaks issue, as it is just a beginning.
Khurshid Shah was addressing the National Assembly, a day after opposition called off its boycott of the Senate and the National Assembly.
He said that the opposition formed a questionnaire to aid solution of the issue and not complicate it. Shah said that the Parliament could solve issues that sit-ins and protests failed to. However he said, opposition has a lot of reservations over Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s speech that he delivered in the National Assembly today.
He said that joint opposition had boycotted Senate and National Assembly’s sessions over premier’s absence.
While talking about opposition’s walkout on Monday after Nawaz Sharif’s address, Shah said that the demonstration came after the premier did not answer opposition’s questions.
The opposition had listened to Prime Minister’s explanations very carefully, he added. He clarified that the opposition did not demonstrate a walkout over his instructions but over Prime Minister’s avoidance.
Nawaz Sharif paid around Rs 0.6 million income tax in as many as 14 years, Shah said. Leader of the Opposition said that the government gave confusing and contradictory statements over offshore companies of premier’s sons.
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, paid Rs 4,400 tax a year after founding the country. How come Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif pays Rs 2,700 in 1993, he asked.
Countrymen’s money should be spent for their betterment, he added.
Meanwhile, PTI chief Imran Khan said that if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not present himself for accountability his party will take to the streets against corruption.
While speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Wednesday, he presented himself for accountability saying “Sharif now stands disqualified for concealing corruption from the house”.
Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah said that opposition has obtained tax record of all companies of the Sharif family and the prime minister should be held accountable first.
He said that Nawaz concealed facts about payment of taxes from parliament. “If sons of PM don’t pay taxes then their Pakistani citizenship and passports should be withdrawn from them,” he said.
He underscored that the Panama leaks issue will move ahead. “We are democratic people. Solution to problems facing the country lies with parliament. Parliament can resolve every difficult issue. The solution to this issue will have to be found within the parliament,” he said.
He said that the PM should have been in parliament today so that he would listen to their voices. “We have not made disclosures about offshore companies. Sons of the PM have admitted that they own offshore companies. The prime minister should have asked his sons to give reply,” he said.
He observed that the Sharif family confused the matter by giving contradictory statements on purchase of flats in London. Questions will arise if no clarification is made. There is no need to get offended over it, he said.
“We are holding record of tax evasion, tax payment and companies owned by Sharif family. PM should not befool the people by fudging figures,” he underlined.
