Work at AJK road, 3 parks kicks off

MIRPUR (AJK) - AJK Prime Minister Abdul Majeed here laid the foundation stone of the Mangla-Mirpur dual carriageway project to be completed with Rs520 million in the wake of the Mangla dam expansion project.The AJK premier was flanked by Wapda Chairman Sayed Ragheb Abbas Shah, former chairman Muhammad Shakeel Durrani, Information Adviser Murtaza Durrani, Chief Secretary Muhammad Shahzad Arbab, Mirpur Divisional Commissioner Raja Amjad Pervez Ali Khan, DIG Police Tahir Qureshi, Director Public Relations Wapda Rana Abid Hussain and other senior officials of the AJK government and Wapda besides the local divisional and district administration.Speaking on the occasion, the AJK prime minister said that the construction of the dual carriageway was the advent of a new dawn in the AJK. He said that the highway, linking Pakistan and AJK to each other, would provide safe and comfortable travelling for the commuters.Majeed described the dual carriage a way forward to provide latest road communications facilities to thousands of people travelling daily to various parts of the country from AJK. He directed the concerned authorities for timely completion of the highway in line with the already-determined high quality construction of the mega project.Moreover, the construction work of three Wapda-sponsored recreation parks at different localities on the periphery of Mangla lake in Mirpur formally commenced on Friday after the top officials of AJK government and Wapda formally laid the foundation stones of the three separate mega projects.Chairman Wapda Raghib Abbas Shah laid the first grand Haji Wahab Din Public Park at Mirpur Bypass Road in the presence of AJK Prime Minister Ch Abdul Majeed, senior officials of the AJK government, Wapda and the city elite.Similarly, AJK Chief Secretary Muhammad Shahzad Arbab laid the foundation stone of Col (r) Munir Hussain Public Park in Mirpur City. Ex-chairman Wapda Shakeel Durrani laid the foundation stone of the third Wapda-sponsored recreation public park on Mirpur Bypass Road.Highlighting the salient features of the newly launched parks projects, a senior official said on the occasion that the parks would be furnished with latest facilities for the visitors of all ages. The AJK premier directed for the timely completion of the construction work on all the three parks within stipulated time frame.Wapda launched the construction of parks with additional funds, allocated other than the stipulated funds of Mangla dam project, under the spirit to provide recreation facilities to the local population including Mangla dam affectees in the parks being construction in the wake of the project.
