Political parties for timely polls

ISLAMABAD - Brushing aside the fears and possibility of any delay or postponement in the upcoming general elections, the political parties across the spectrum are unanimous in their views that no political force or any other 'stakeholders' is in favour of deferment of elections as the whole the nation is in elections gear. The leaders from various political parties termed the poor law and order situation in various parts of the country as pretext for postponement of elections as rubbish and emphatically said that elections would be held in time.Awami National Party Vice-President Haji Adeel said that no political party was in favour of polls postponement while the other power-players in the system including Armed Forces of the country and Supreme Court of Pakistan are supportive of holding of elections in time. In a lighter vein Haji Adeel added that the issue of delay in the elections is just in media and the figment of imagination of a few so-called rumours monger and so-called scholars while the real stakeholders are very much serious about holding of elections in time.Similar views are also expressed by Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz) Central Information Secretary Mushahid Ullah Khan who has also termed the delay of elections on the pretext of precarious law and order situation as rubbish and unfounded. If the poor law and order situation could be made reason for delay in polls then elections in any country could not be held till doomsday and added that all the things normally go side by side.He was however critical of the casual way the government was dealing very serious matters like the appointment of caretaker prime minister and quickly added that the confusion about the fate of elections was only due to the government's attitude toward serious matters. To a question he said that though he saw no possibility of delay in elections but in case such a situation would arise then it would be disastrous for the very solidarity of the country.Qoumi Watan Party chief and former federal interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao also wanted to see in time elections and demanded of the government to immediate announce the schedule as it would allay the confusion shrouding the fate of upcoming general elections.Sherpao was also of the view that the delay in elections on any pretext would have disastrous fallout on the country and things would further deteriorate.Pakistan People's Party leaders denied the impression of creating confusion on their part and simply said that they would cross the bridge when they approach it. They made it clear that they were moving ahead as per the constitution and when the time for appointment of caretaker prime minister and chief ministers in provinces come they would do it as per the procedure laid down in the constitution.Member of the Central Executive Committee of the PPP Qazi Sultan Mahmood said that both President and Prime Minister had time and again made it clear that elections would be held as per schedule and assemblies would be completing its mandated term for the first time in the history of the country. He said that elections would not be delay on any pretext and when time come the confusions and conspiracies would die down for itself, as PPP would fulfill the promise of holding elections in time as it had completed all the promises made with the people in the past five years rule.
