Implementation of Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick-Kilns Ordinance-2016 will be ensured in letter and spirit and child labour will be eliminated at all costs.
DCO Muhammad Shahid said during visit to several brick-kilns where he met kiln workers here the other day.
He said that the government is committed to ending child labour and provide education to the children of kiln workers.
The DCO said that on violation, kiln owners and other responsible persons would have to face imprisonment, fine and even closure of kiln.
He said that children working at brick-kilns would be enrolled in schools and they would be given monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 while stationary and uniform would also be provided to the children.
He said that it is a serious crime to employ children from 5 to 14 years of age as labourers and if any brick-kiln is found breaching the rule, the law would take its course and the kiln owner would be dealt with sternly.
He directed the officers concerned who were accompanying him to make sure that the ordinance is implemented as no leniency would be tolerated on their part.
CASE REGISTERED: Unidentified accused shot injured a man in Raja Jang area the other day.
One Abdul Waheed has registered a case with the Raja Jang Police that unknown assailants shot at and injured his cousin Bilal. The police are looking for the accused after registering a case.
