SC reserves judgement on five death sentences awarded by military courts

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday reserved judgement on five appeals against death sentences announced by military courts after hearing detailed arguments of the counsels appeared before the court on behalf of the convicted.

The court reserved verdict after completion of arguments on appeals of Qari Zubair, Fateh Muhammad, Muhammad Arbi, Askan Mahboob and Sher Alam.

A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Justice Faisal Arab took up appeals against death sentences announced by the military courts and heard details arguements.

Qari Zubair was involved in bomb blast at Mosque in Noshewara while Fateh Muhammad was involved in attacks at Army installations.

The Army court awarded death sentence to Askan Mahboob and Sher Alam for attacking Army convoy.

Counsels appeared for the accused apprised the court that legel obligations were not fulfilled by the Military Courts in awarding death sentences as their clients were even not allowed to hire counsels of their choice.
