Kashmir issue should be resolved as per UN resolution: PM

ISLAMABAD: The Kashmir issue should be resolved as per United Nations’ (UN) resolutions whereas the international community should also take notice of Indian aggression in occupied Kashmir.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.

Several important internal and regional security issues, including the recent violation of human rights by Indian security forces in the Indian held Kashmir, Pak-Afghan border security situation and intelligence based operations (IBOs) across the country in general and in Karachi in particular were came under discussion.

The meeting demanded ban on the use of pellet guns by the Indian troops in the held valley for dispersing people exercising their right to protest.

It unanimously called upon the international community to condemn the blatant human rights violations and play their role in ensuring the realization of human rights of the Kashmiri people through fulfilling its commitments towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir under the UN resolutions.

The prime minister expressed his full confidence on security forces’ efforts against terrorism and put his weight behind the security agencies in Karachi and elsewhere.

The premier was also briefed about construction of 37-metre-long gate at Torkham border to check illegal movement to and from the Pak-Afghan border.

It was decided in the meeting that the Hurriyet leadership based in Pakistan would be invited in the upcoming joint session of the Parliament.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), chiefs of all three arms of the military, DG Inter-Services Intelligence, PM’s advisers on national security and foreign affairs, important cabinet members including ministers of finance, interior, defence and information who are part of this committee.
