PTU resents holidays’ cancellation

The Punjab Teacher’s Union held a protest outside EDO Education office over the cancellation of holidays for the anti-dengue campaign and announced to lay a siege to the CM Secretariat on November 28.
PTU Punjab Vice President Safdar Kalroo led the protest. Addressing the protesting teachers, Safdar Kalroo and other office-bearers Kazim Hussain; Dost Muhammad; Waris Sipra; Ali Mohammad Nasir said that Punjab government had cancelled their leaves of Sundays during month of November on pretext of dengue days.
They said that teachers were snubbed by the religious leaders and mourners for dengue campaign on Ashura days while education officers marked them absent during visits to schools on these holidays. They said that PTU had decided to surround and stage sit-in in front of CM house on November 28 if their demands were not met immediately.
Furthermore, they said that their issues regarding withdrawals of GP Funds; sanctioning of casual leaves were also not being processed by the deputy DEOs.
They also blamed DDEO Chiniot Liaqat Ali for corruption and misuse of official vehicle for personal tours.
When contacted, DDEO Liaqat Ali said that Sundays and Ashura holidays were cancelled on Punjab government orders due to dengue campaign while the cases of GP fund withdrawals will be passed after completion of codal formalities.
He denied misusing official vehicle for personal use.
