Rising crime: Police let down Sialkot citizens

Dacoits went on a rampage through Sialkot and made off with a many motorcycles, gold ornaments, electronics appliances and other valuables in dozens of hits across the district.
The police, however, remained unable to trace any of the culprits involved in the crimes. Social, religious, business and political circles have expressed grave concern over the critical situation and questioned the police performance.
They regretted that it seems the police have left the district at the mercy of dacoits and thieves. They said that the Sialkot police have miserably failed to trace the gangs of culprits.
Rights activists Shahid Mir Advocate and Aliya Hina Advocate said that travelling on motorcycle was still unsafe and risky in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Uggoki, Pasrur, Badiana, Chawinda, Satrah and surrounding areas.
Shahid Mir said that the police have totally failed in halting the growing incidents of motorcycle snatching and theft which should be a point of grave concern for everyone. Aliya said that the police have miserably failed to secure life and property.
She expressed grave concern over this critical situation, saying that this situation leaves a big question mark on the performance of police. She suggested that early revamping of police patrolling system could help halt the bike snatching and theft incidents on main and along the link roads in all the urban and rural parts of Sialkot district.
In urban areas of Daska city, criminals looted several motorcycles, gold ornaments, cash, electronics and other valuables during more than 20 incidents of dacoity, robbery, theft and house burglaries occurred. The local traders, doctors, paramedics, lawyers and people were much perturbed. They alleged that the police have allegedly put the innocent and peace-loving people at the mercy of the criminals.
In Uggoki, thieves took away a motorcycle (STL-7795) of local trader Hassan Raza. In village Sayyan-Uggoki, two dacoits looted a motorcycle, cash, gold ornaments and mobile phones from a local trader Fiaz and his wife.
In village Guru Chak-Daska, three armed dacoits stormed into the house of a local farmer Abdul Rauf, held the family members at gunpoint and fled away after looting gold ornaments, cash, electronics and other valuables.
In Sialkot, the outlaws looted gold ornaments, cash, electronics and other valuables worth Rs10 million during a major dacoity incident occurred in the house of local exporter Mehar Saleem in Model Town locality about five days ago. The burgled house is located a few yards away from the police check post of Model Town.
Earlier, doctors and paramedics protested against the dacoity incidents with two senior doctors, demanding immediate arrest of accused. They warned to go on strike if the bandits were not arrested by police within the next couple of days. The protesting doctors and paramedics said that they were much perturbed due to rising dacoity and robbery incidents in Daska city.
Three unknown armed motorcyclists looted thousands of rupees in cash and mobile phones from Dr Abid Ali Ranjha and Dr Iftikhar Ahmed.
Meanwhile, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) expressed grave concern over the rising crime. SCCI President Mansur Ahmed said that eight major dacoity incidents have occurred in Sialkot during the last week and police still remained unable to arrest the persons involved in the heinous crimes. He said that the traders and exporters in Sialkot are much perturbed due to the rising dacoity and robbery incidents.
He urged the senior police officials to bring betterment in the police patrolling system besides evolving an effective anti-crime strategy to curb the crime.
