US awards edu scholarships to 147 KP students

PESHAWAR – The United States awarded scholarships to 147 students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Monday.In this connection, a function was held at a local hotel. The scholarships are a part of a programme that helps new and practicing teachers gain quality teacher training experience through a four-year Bachelors degree (B.Ed) and two-year Associate degree (AED) in Education.“Pakistan and the United States have enjoyed a long and productive cooperation that spans more than 60 years. This scholarship programME is yet another expression of the US Government’s long- term commitment to help build a stronger, more prosperous Pakistan,” said Mr. Fazal Rabbi, a USAID Project Management Specialist for education projects. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through its five-year, $75 million Teacher Education Project is partnering with the Government of Pakistan to develop, roll out, and implement the recently introduced B.Ed. and AED degrees. The U.S. is also working closely with the provincial governments to create systems, policies, and standards that will ensure effective implementation of the degree programs. As part of this program, the United States is sponsoring 1,400 scholarships for the new degree programs.
