GILGIT - Death toll from flash floods in Gilgit-Baltistan rose to six as another two persons lost their lives in Khanbari Vally of Diamer on Sunday.
Hundreds of tourists including five parliamentarians got trapped in Naltar Gilgit due to blockage of roads after floods and landslide incidents at different places.
Two young boys Azad Wali and Rehmat Jan were swept away by the flash flood in Khanbari, control room Chillas told The Nation.
"We have received reports of two casualties so far in various flood-related incidents," the control room officials said.
"At least 2 RCC bridges, 25 KM road, 18 MW power house and three water tunnels have partially been damaged in Nalter," Rizwan Tahir, Deputy Commisioner, Gilgit, informed.
The floods have crippled the area's infrastructure, depriving people of all modern facilities, including electricity and running water.
Moreover, as the Karakoram Highway has now been closed for 2 days, a food and fuel crisis has emerged in the town.
Running water is also not available in homes as channels carrying water to houses have been destroyed by either landslides or floods at various locations.
Since there is no diesel or petrol available and hardly any vehicles are seen on roads and people are back to walking. And in the absence of kerosene oil and LPG cylinders, people are using wood to cook meals.
