Qureshi vows to resist Ord in parliament

MULTAN
Former foreign minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has warned that his party will oppose Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan Ordinance in the parliament.
Talking to the journalists here the other day, he added that the ordinance violated basic human rights ensured by the constitution for the citizens and therefore his party members would bulldoze it in the parliament. “If this ordinance is given a legal status, it will be a black law and it will deny basic rights to the citizens,” he maintained. He asked the PPP and all other political parties to join hands with the PTI and oppose the ordinance. He suggested to the government to utilize the proposed law in only those areas where terrorists operated freely. He said that the PTI had presented its viewpoint on this law in standing committee’s meeting and if the government tried to get the law approved from the assembly, his party would oppose this bid at all platforms. He declared that his party would consider the current regime civilian martial law if the government imposed the law forcibly. He expressed his fear that Pakistan would become a police state after enforcement of this ordinance.
He declared that the PTI’s parliamentary party would convene in Islamabad with Imran Khan in the chair to discuss the law in the first phase while in second phase likeminded parties like JI and Awami Muslim League would be consulted to chalk out a line of action. He urged upon the legal fraternity to review the law carefully and create awareness among masses on it. He requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of this law as it was contradictory of constitution.
He said that the law denied legal rights of citizens as security agencies would get the powers to pick anyone on basis of suspicion without any warrant and his family would not be given any information. He warned that entire nation would have to face the consequences if people did not raise voice against this black law. He stressed upon the civil society to come out and oppose this law.
