NCHR takes notice of kids’ death in Thar

ISLAMABAD - Taking notice of the death of over 100 infants in drought-hit Thar, the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has directed the Chief Secretary Sindh to submit a report on the causes of death within 10 days.
The commission took notice of the media reports and expressed grave concern over the rise of children death toll across Thar due to the outbreak of waterborne diseases, malnutrition, famine and inadequate health facilities and infrastructure.
The four-member bench comprising Chairman NCHR Justice (Retd) Ali Nawaz Chouhan, Member Commission (ICT) Ch. Muhammad Shafique, Member Commission (KPK) Dr Yahya and Member (Minorities) Ishaq Masih Naz has also decided to send a fact-finding team to Thar and would take this issue on priority.
National Commission for Human Rights has also sought report from Secretary Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) within seven days regarding regularization of daily wages teachers. This order was given by a NCHR bench during a hearing of daily wages teachers’ case. Representatives of teacher action committee, Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) and Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) were present on the occasion.
The commission was informed that due to the active role of NCHR the government has released the funds and salaries are being given to the teacher. The official told the bench that regularisation case is in the Cabinet Division Committee which is being headed by secretary FPSC. After hearing the statements, the NCHR bench directed the secretary FPSC to submit detailed report in this regard within seven days.
