ISLAMABAD – Legal advisers of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf say that his son-in-law Raja Azeemul Haq should wait for the Supreme Court proceedings before assuming the charge of the World Bank executive director, TheNation learnt Friday.
Sources informed TheNation that some of the legal aides of the premier suggested that Raja Azeemul Haq should not leave to take charge of the World Bank job until the initial hearing of Supreme Court's suo moto notice against his appointment. The legal experts say that in the light of the court proceedings, they will decide whether Azeem should go to Washington to take charge of his new assignment or not, sources disclosed.
According to sources, though the legal procedure was followed for the selection of Azeem, he could face embarrassment if the apex court would decide the case against him. “In that case, he would have to return back from Washington after taking charge at the World Bank.”
The officials at the Prime Minister Secretariat were not available for commenting on the matter.
A PPP leader close to the prime minister said that Raja Azeem would not go abroad until he gets clearance from the Supreme Court. He said that all the legal formalities were fully met in the hiring and the apex court would clear him.
