KARACHI: An alleged worker of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), who was detained by security forces on Monday, has confessed to killing renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri.

Sources claim Shahzad Mullah disclosed that a six-member team, comprising two MQM workers from Liaquatabad, was formed for the high-profile murder. They added that the suspect’s cell phone had also been retrieved.

According to sources, Mullah was the sector in-charge of MQM in Liquatabad and was given the task of murdering Sabri by an important person of the party.

Following the interrogation, sources said the MQM worker had confessed that he shot dead the noted qawwal for not paying extortion to the party.

Amjad Sabri, a son of qawwali icon Maqbool Sabri who passed away in 2011, was gunned down after armed miscreants fired at his vehicle in the city's Liaquatabad area.
