Islamabad: Pakistan responding to reports regarding death of Mullah Omar, said that the government is trying to find facts regarding rumors about death of Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Omar.

This was stated by Foreign Office Spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah at weekly news briefing in Islamabad today.

The spokesman said that Pakistan is to facilitate the second round of talks, between the Afghan government and Afghan Taliban. He said Pakistan remains committed to supporting and facilitating an Afghan led and Afghan owned reconciliation process.

He said peace in Afghanistan is not only in the interest of Afghan people, but also the people of Pakistan.

As India blamed Pakistan for the Gurdaspur attack that killed at least seven people this week, Qazi termed accusations "unfortunate" and said, countering terrorism could only be possible through cooperation.

"Pointing fingers before investigation is not a healthy trend," said the spokesperson. Qazi said that statements of Indian officials over Punjab attack were reflection of Modi government’s war hysteria.

He said Pakistan is a victim itself of terrorism and fighting against terrorism for peace in whole region.

The spokesman said that statements of Indian leaders were disappointing and would not helpful for peace in the region. He said Indian media and leaders started raising fingers towards Pakistan soon after the terror attack took place.

Qazi said Pakistan has strongly condemned the terror attack in Indian Punjab, but attitude of New Delhi is totally unacceptable added that Pakistan would respond strongly against any aggression.

Talking about India's aggression at the Line of Control (LoC) and working boundary, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson said, Pakistan is capable of defending itself.

He added the Pakistani high commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, postponed his visit to Chandigarh following the incident, because the Indian government did not permit his driver and two other officers to travel with him.

The spokesperson further said, India and Pakistan are in touch regarding the dates for the meeting between their respective national security advisers.
