In separate operations conducted here to target militants, their facilitators and hideouts, as many as 427 suspects were arrested here on Tuesday.
An operation was conducted on seven locations conducted in Bahawalpur where police interrogated 150 suspects and after the interrogation, 133 were cleared and released while cases had been registered against the remaining 17 suspects.
In Rahim Yar Khan district, 148 suspected persons were investigated and after which 125 were cleared while cases against 15 persons registered. In Bahawalnagar operations were conducted in 18 locations where the police interrogated 40 persons and registered cases against 15.
After the Gulshan-i-Iqbal incident, Rahim Yar Khan Police conducted a search operation Monday night at 15 locations with the participation of SDPOs and SHOs.
During the operation, police investigated 148 suspected persons and collected their data, out of these 148 suspects 125 were cleared after investigation while 15 persons were booked.
In Wazirabad, army, rangers police personnel conducted operation and established check posts on the entrance and exit points of Gujranwala District on River Chenab on GT Road and Sialkot Road in search of terrorists and their facilitators.
They established check posts on River Chenab, the entrance of District Gujranwala, and Sialkot road near Sohdra road. Army Jawans and policemen also urged the citizens to keep a vigilant eye on their surroundings and report any unusual situation they find in their surroundings.
“We have started search operation seriously to locate terrorists and their facilitators,” an officer said, adding that terrorists and other anti-state elements cannot be allowed to play with the lives of people and sovereignty of Pakistan. Many suspects were detained and shifted to unknown place for further investigation. Military Intelligence also checked a vehicle of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and detected three arms from the people on board and detained them. In Sialkot, the law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) have detained 250 suspects including 60 Afghan nationals for their suspected activities during the ongoing crackdown in various urban and rural parts of Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur and surrounding areas. According to the DSP Maqsood Ahmed Lone, the LEAs have arrested 60 Afghan nationals who had been staying in various parts of the district illegally or on fake documents. He said that the LEAs are interrogating the detained accused.
Likewise, Sargodha police and intelligence agencies arrested five suspects during a search operation on Tuesday. They conducted an operation in Sillanwali, Sakook and surrounding areas in district Sargodha. The security forces managed to arrest five suspects along with weapons from different localities during the actions. The detainees were shifted to an unknown location for interrogation and more arrests were expected as investigation will proceed further, police sources said.
In Multan, The law enforcement agencies carried out a search operation in Sewara Chowk and adjoining areas on Tuesday and arrested over 50 suspicious persons. Police sources said that the operation was jointly carried out by army, Rangers, Multan police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and JTT. Sources added that the searching teams scanned over 500 houses and verified the particulars of inmates with the help of biometric devices. Sources said that the security agencies also recovered arms from the possession of arrested persons. Police sources said that the operation would continue in different areas of Multan till the scanning of entire town. Earlier, police and other law enforcing agencies had arrested 70 persons during a search operation in different areas who are being quizzed by investigators.
