BEIJING: China has lauded the measures Pakistani government has taken for the security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Chinese enterprises and Chinese citizens, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson expressed these view here during a regular Press Conference.
“China attaches great importance to the security and smooth functioning of the CPEC, and commends what Pakistan has done to secure the corridor and Chinese enterprises and citizens there. We believe that Pakistan will heighten precautions against security risks and continue to protect Chinese people working and projects undergoing in Pakistan”, spokesperson said while commenting on question over the security state of CPEC.
Geng Shuang further said, “the CPEC, as the consensus reached between the two governments, is of great importance to enhancing practical cooperation in trade, improving people's livelihood and promoting regional connectivity. It enjoys extensive support from both China and Pakistan”.
Responding to a question about alleviating the India-Pakistan tension, spokesperson said “China is a friendly neighbor to India and Pakistan. China always hopes that India and Pakistan can properly resolve relevant disputes through dialogue and consultation, improve bilateral relations, strengthen all-round cooperation and jointly promote regional peace, stability, and development”.
On China’s role for solving tension between India and Pakistan, spokesperson said “on September 28, Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin met with special envoys of Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Vice Minister Liu Zhenmin listened to Pakistani envoys' briefings on the situation in Kashmir and Pakistan's standpoint, and emphasized that China has been following the Kashmir situation and takes seriously Pakistan's position on Kashmir.
He further added by saying, “China believes that the Kashmir issue is a left-over from history which shall be resolved by relevant parties through dialogue and consultation. China hopes that Pakistan and India will strengthen channels for dialogue, properly handle their differences, improve bilateral relations and together protect the regional peace and stability”.
On a question over the postponement of SAARC summit to be held in Islamabad, he said “China, as an observer state of SAARC, has been a long-term supporter of the SAARC cooperation process. We hope that SAARC will continue to move ahead and play a constructive role for regional peace, stability, prosperity and development”, he noted.
Replying to a question on China and India security dialogue on counter-terrorism, Geng Shuan said, during the China-India Counter-Terrorism Security Dialogue held on September 27, the two sides exchanged views on how to enhance counter-terrorism security cooperation and jointly meet security threats.
“Important consensus was reached. With regard to India-Pakistan tension, China is in touch with both India and Pakistan through various channels. We hope that they can carry out dialogues to properly resolve disputes and maintain regional peace and security. We have released information of this security dialogue”, he added.
Responding to a question on upcoming BRICS Summit to be held next month in Goa, India, spokesperson said, “The BRICS countries are important engines driving the world economic growth, a fact reinforced by the IMF's predictions. When the world economic recovery is feeble and unbalanced, the BRICS countries still boast great potential and a bright prospect for growth. There is so much to be expected. Their contributions to the world economy are indispensable”.
He further added, “When leaders of the BRICS countries meet for the 8th Summit in Goa, India in October, we hope that we can uphold the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win results, strengthen partnership, deepen practical cooperation, and make joint efforts to promote a strong, sustained and balanced economic growth and improve global governance”.
