Malala attack suspect arrested: Malik

LONDON - Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said it would be unfair to make attack on Malala Yousafzai an excuse for launching a military operation in North Waziristan.In an interview with BBC on Tuesday, Malik said Malala’s condition is getting better day by day, however, she is needed more treatment and care. He said that the assailants represented a particular school of thought which is against the education of women in Pakistan. “We don’t want such incidents to be repeated in future,” the minister said, adding “There are certain aspects which needed to be kept in mind before launching an operation including security of local people, suitable time and weather conditions, and aftermath of the operation.” He said both civilian and military leaderships would jointly take a decision in this regard. He said Islamabad would take decision keeping in mind national interest as Americans do.To a query, Malik said all the people involved in attack on Malala have been arrested including Attaullah and his fiancee. He said that Taliban have devised a new strategy for attacks, as they and proclaimed offenders would jointly carry out their designs.To another query about Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah’s extradition, Malik said Islamabad has not only asked Afghan President Karzai but also moved a written application in this connection.Answering about assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and kidnapping of his son, the interior minister said that the murder accused is in police custody and facing trial while Taseer’s son would soon be recovered as security forces have done a lot in this regard.
