PARACHINAR (Agencies) - At least 95 people including 18 tribesmen were killed and more than 200 injured in the fresh armed clashes between the warring tribes in Kurram Agency on Sunday. Sectarian clashes in Parachinar left 95 more people dead and scores of others wounded amid reports that the rival groups in certain areas have intensified attacks on each other's positions. The armed groups equipped with heavy weapons, targeted each other's positions. Sources informed that the Bangash tribe enjoys the support of local militants. Despite unilateral truce announced by Turi tribes, activists of Bangash tribe backed by local Taliban launched attacks on activists of the rival group from Bugzai headquarters. Followed by attack, the supporters of Turi tribe and local tribal Lashkar besieged Bugzai area, triggering fierce battle between them. Local tribal Lashkar attacked positions of Bangash tribe with heavy weapons to force them to stop fighting. The Taliban also launched suicide attacks on local tribal Lashkar, killing 12 tribesmen on the spot. The fighting has also killed 8 other tribesmen and 77 Taliban. After fierce battle, which lasted for many hours, Turi tribes are reported to have occupied Bugzai, headquarters of their opponents. The local tribal Lashkar also recovered huge cache of weapons from the positions of Bugzai tribe and local Taliban. Sources said at least 70 tribesmen and more than 129 Taliban were wounded in the fresh fighting between the rival tribes. Injured have been shifted to hospitals of Kotal, Hangu, Sadda and Parachinar. On the other hand, residents of the area are facing shortage of food items and medicine due to closure of main highway. Meanwhile, Member National Assembly (MNA) from Kurram Agency, Sajid Hussain Turi has said that some external forces were behind the current clashes in the Agency and urged elders of other tribal agencies to come forward and play their role in maintaining peace in the area. "The armed clashes in Kurram Agency are not sectarian but some hidden external hands are involved in the conflict," Sajid said this while talking to APP here Sunday.
