WASHINGTON - Kashmiri leader Ghulam Nabi Fai Wednesday pleaded guilty to receiving money from Inter-Service intelligence (ISI) while lobbying for the cause of Kashmir on Capitol Hill for more than a decade, according to media reports. Fai, 62, a US citizen who was the executive director of Washington-based Kashmiri American Council, pleaded guilty in Alexandria, Virginia, to two counts of conspiracy and impeding the Internal Revenue Service. Fai admitted receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from ISI, but never disclosed those links while serving as a supposedly independent lobbyist on Kashmir. He will be formally charged on December 9. After the hearing, Fais lawyer, Nina Ginsberg said he insists his lobbying work was his own and not directed by Pakistan.
