FO asks envoys to seek prior permission

ISLAMABAD - Taking notice of meetings between foreign diplomats and government officials including heads of federal ministers and parliamentarians, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked foreign missions working in federal capital to let the Foreign Office know before holding such meetings. In a letter delivered to foreign missions in Islamabad on Friday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked them to seek permission from Foreign Office before holding any meeting with ministers, parliamentarians, officials or any government stakeholder. Foreign Office vowed to take strict action in case of any further violation, it was learnt reliably. When contacted, Foreign Office Spokesperson Abdul Basit confirmed it and said, We have told them (missions) to abide by the diplomatic rules and regulations. I dont know whether or not some meetings have been held between some federal ministers and foreign diplomats without the knowledge of the ministry, he told when asked about some meetings. It is worth mentioning here that the ministry has written many a times to foreign missions in Islamabad to abide by the rules and regulations.
