A number of sports events for KP youth: Aimal Shah

PESHAWAR - Director General (DG) Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Aimal Shah has said that they have planned a number of sports events commencing from October next.
Giving details of the sports activities planned by directorate, the DG said Inter-schools events would start from October 9, indigenous games across the province from November 4, Inter-regional women games from December 12 and Inter-district U-21 would take place in the month of January next year.
Speaking at “Meet the Press” programme of KP Sports Writers Association (KPSWA) here on Thursday, he said a comprehensive sports policy would be soon formulated which would help in promotion of sports in the province. “My wish is to bring players back to the ground. In last one decade, nothing has been done in the field of sports,” he said adding all the games would be managed by the directorate and no role would be given to respective sports associations.
Flanked by KPSWA president Nadir Khwaja, he said that according to the proposed sports policy, no educational institution would get no objection certificate until it allocated sufficient place for sports activities in its premises. He also said that sports grounds would not be allowed to be used for any other activities.
Regarding the government plan to construct a ground at every tehsil, the DG said the government got free land in five different districts while it has purchased land in 12 other districts. In the remaining districts, Aimal said they had sent the case back to concerned deputy commissioners to assess the prices of the required land.
The DG lamented over the deteriorated condition of sports facilities across the province saying that if affects the sportsmen of the province. “Cattles are kept in the grounds and used for everything except sports,” he confessed.
Two parallel Olympic associations also affecting the games and the players alike. He said the last year funds had lapsed government was keen to improve the sports facilities in the province and providing all financial assistance, he concluded.
