ISLAMABAD-Pakistan-based international squash coach Sardar Ali Khan has claimed that if assured complete power and authority of my role, he can help the country regain its lost squash glory within given time frame.
Pakistan squash is in dire need of appointing highly qualified and experienced coach especially after two renowned coaches Jamshed and Faheem Gul had left Pakistan and settled in USA.
Talking to The Nation from Czech Republic, Sardar, who has coached a number of present and former greats, said: “Pakistan is blessed with immense amount of talent but the need of the hour is to provide them with proper and modern training. I am sure Pakistan male and female players can easily help the country in earning glories at international level, if they pay heed to what they had been taught.”
Speaking about his squash career, Sardar said: “I started playing squash at a very young age at Fleet Club Navy Karachi under my uncle Roshan Khan. I have learnt a lot of things from Roshan Khan and others squash greats and played a lot of squash world over. I joined my uncle Roshan Khan as an assistant coach at Fleet Club Navy from 1971 to 1980. In 1981, I moved to Jordan to become national coach, was appointed national coach of Bahrain in 1987 till 1990. I became national coach of Czech Republic in 2000 to 2003, was Mexican national coach from 2004 to 2006, national coach of Colombia from 2007 to 2012, then coach of Polish club in 2013, before becoming national coach of Guatemala from 2014 to 15. I was appointed as director of squash Guaymaral Club Colombia in 2016.”
When asked whether he was ready to come to Pakistan and train Pakistan players, if the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) offered him coaching role, Sardar replied: “I can accept coaching offer only with one condition that is complete powers and authority. I don’t take dictations, and if once I accept the responsibility, it is my promise I will start producing results in the given timeframe.
“I have training methods on which I can help Pakistan male and females. I have no lust of power or money, as Almighty has given me everything. I just want to pay back in the best possible fashion. I am ready to help Pakistan squash, as it hurts when I see not a single Pakistani player in top 50,” he added.
Sardar said that he had witnessed the highs of Pakistan squash and it was very much possible to regain lost glory with dedication, sheer hard work and training. “Pakistan is my home. As I have spent more than four decades serving abroad, now time is high to serve my country and help it regain past glory, so I am given opportunity, I will surely do my best and try to achieve my goals as coach,” Sardar concluded.
