Death toll rises to six in Karachi building collapse

Six bodied have been recovered from the rubble of a five-storey building collapsed in the Mithadar police limits late Friday night. The rescue operation was hindered tremendously by the narrow lane in which the fallen building was located. A five-storey building located in Mithadar area collapsed with a loud explosion late on Friday night killing three members of a family Jameela, her son Muhammad Ahmad, daughter Sadia, Salma and another person Shoaib. Fire brigade, rescue workers, Edhi Foundation volunteers, town administration and locals rushed to the site soon after the collapse but narrow lane created hindrance in rescue operation. Provincial Health Minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmad imposed emergency in Civil Hospital. Sources said removal of debris could take more than 12 hours. Eyewitnesses said more than 30 people were present at the time of collapse. Several people still trapped under the rubble whereas adjacent building has also declared dangerous and residents have been shifted in other buildings.
