LAHORE - The chief minister has approved District Coordination Officer, Rahim Yar Khan to be nominated as Project Director for establishment of Women University, Rahim Yar Khan (after upgrading Govt Degree College for Women, Rahim Yar Khan as women university) in addition to his own duties, sources in the education department claimed on Saturday. They said that chief minister also approved the up-gradation of Khawaja Farid College, Rahim Yar Khan as sub-campus of Islamia University, Bahawalpur (IUB) with certain arrangements. The proposed sub-campus of Islamia University Bahawalpur shall have 'Khawaja Farid College of Graduate Studies' as its constituent college and autonomous college under a principal/ director. The present assets and liabilities of Khawaja Farid Govt Post Graduate College shall continue to be managed by the proposed Khawaja Farid College of Graduate Studies, whereas the Islamia University shall establish and procure its own infrastructure, equipment, and allied facilities. Subject to their consent, the present teaching or administrative and support staff of Khawaja Farid Post Graduate College, fulfilling the requirements of HEC, shall either be absorbed or appointed on deputation in IUB sub-campus, whereas the remaining staff shall be posted elsewhere. Islamia University Bahawalpur shall establish an Engineering College at its sub-campus at Rahim Yar Khan. Secretary Higher Education shall constitute a committee comprising the stakeholders, public representatives and relevant government functionaries to sort out the modalities of this up-gradation within thirty days positively. Meanwhile, a notification regarding up-gradation is likely to be issued soon enabling IUB to initiate its development plan and formalities with Higher Education Commission. Secretary HEC in consultation with IUB may also put up a panel for the nomination of a Project Director.
