LAHORE - Pakistan ladies tennis champions Ushna Suhail and Noor Malik – both from Wapda – breezed into the semifinals of the 7th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Tournaments at PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad. In the ladies singles quarterfinals, Wapda’s Ushna Suhail thrashed Kainat Ali 6-0, 6-0 while Noor Malik of Wapda edged out spirited Sheeza Sajid 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 and Mavish Chistie defeated Asfa Shahbaz 6-4, 7-6(2). In the men’s singles second round, Heera Ashiq beat Israr Gul 6-2, 6-2; Shahzad Khan beat Imran Bhatti 6-1, 6-1; Mudasir Murtaza beat Barkatullah 6-3, 3-6, 6-2; M Abid beat Abdullah Adnan 6-0, 6-0; Muhammad Shoaib beat Huzaifa Khan 6-4, 6-2; Muzammil Murtaza beat Faizan Fayyaz 6-0, 6-0; Yousaf Khalil beat Uzair Khan 6-0, 6-0 and Aqeel Khan bt Hasheesh Kumar 6-0, 6-1.
In women’s singles, Iljah Tariq recorded victory luckily against Mahoor Shehzad as the latter was injured during the final and was retired hurt. Mahoor easily won the first game 21-6 but in the second game, she injured and retired hurt at a score of 15-8. Director Female Games Miss Rashida Ghaznavi was the chief guest on this occasion and distributed prizes among the winners.
