islamabad - The administration of Pakistan institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) suspend Dr Waseem Khawaja on the complaint of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for making his video during his stay at the hospital, which was leaked to the media.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman was briefly admitted at PIMS on April 28 at the hospital where he was treated for indigestion and acidity. Dr Waseem Khawaja and Vice-Chancellor Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University Dr Javed Akram had examined Maulana Fazl.
He underwent various tests and was administered injections and later discharged in the evening after his condition improved and pain subsided. But a video that showed him lying on the hospital bed with half-naked abdomen and being treated by a female nurse was leaked to electronic and social media.
He was mocked by the social media users for having treated by a female nurse when he has been critical of pro-women laws and their ruling in the past. He had also censured the government for enacting Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016 in Punjab that provided comprehensive protection to women against a range of domestic violence. The son of Maulana phoned the vice-chancellor SZABMU and complained about the incident on which the administration after initial inquiry found that Dr Khawaja made the video that was leaked to the media.
The vice-chancellor confirmed the suspension of Dr Khawaja saying the incident is being further probed, as the privacy of a patient was infringed upon and it is unethical to capture someone during the treatment without the permission whether the patient is a commoner or a politician.
