ISLAMABAD - Former human rights minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Shireen Mazari Saturday shared on her Twitter handle a false image showing Pakistan judiciary’s links with the establishment in the United States (US). Dr Mazari uploaded the image and tweeted: “Imagine! What an insult to Pakistan brought upon by the US regime change conspiracy! Surely dark shadows getting a greater crimson blush!” The image, according to Mazari’s tweet, was from the New York Herald and showed that Pakistan’s judiciary was happy on receiving orders from the US establishment. A caption on her Twitter handle read: “New York Herald cartoon in today’s Newspaper… What a great shame for Pakistan!”
The doctored image went viral on social media platforms, in the context of the no-trust vote against former premier Imran Khan. But, in actuality, the New York Herald was shut down in 1924, about 23 years before the creation of Pakistan, and the image was completely phoney.
The image provided by PTI lawmaker Dr Mazari was first published on Mint Press News in a different context, and, it has since been utilised in a variety of contexts.After receiving harsh criticism for publishing a bogus cartoon on a social networking platform, she abruptly erased it.
It is to be noted here that former premier Imran Khan has accused the US of plotting to destabilise his government on several occasions. Former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, who was part of Imran Khan’s cabinet, went a step ahead to forward the propaganda.
