Petrol price up by Rs5, diesel Rs6.37

Islamabad - The government on Wednesday increased the prices of high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs6.37 per litre and motor spirit (petrol) by Rs5 per litre for the month of November 2018.

The price of light diesel oil (LDO) was also increased by Rs6.48 per litre and super kerosene oil by Rs3 per litre, said a notification issued by the ministry of Finance.

“The government has decided to absorb the substantial impact of increase in the prices of petroleum products and only partially pass on the increase to the consumers for the month of November,” said the notification. The decision has been taken to minimise the burden on the public at large, it added.

Based on the international prices, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority had worked out an increase of Rs9.02 per litre in petrol price and Rs13.22 per litre in HSD rate for November. However an increase of Rs5 has been allowed by the government, while the price of HSD was increased Rs6.37 (5.98 percent).

For kerosene oil, the recommended increase, by Ogra, was Rs6.47 per litre but the government allowed an increase of Rs3 per litre (3.59 percent). For the LDO the recommended increase of Rs6.48 per litre (8.53 percent) has been approved as the tax/levy on the product is already negligible, said the notification.

After the increase in petroleum products prices, the rate of petrol would increase from Rs92.83 to Rs97.83 per litre and HSD from Rs106.57 to Rs112.94 per litre. The price of kerosene oil will go up from Rs83.50 to Rs86.50 per litre.

HSD is being used in agriculture and transportation, kerosene oil is used in remote areas where LPG was not available for cooking purposes. The LDO is used in industry.
