Pakistan Peoples  Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon has been shifted to Karachi Central Jail after the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) found alcohol, cigarettes and drugs in his room during a surprise visit on Saturday.

At the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry earlier today, he made a surprise visit to three private hospitals and examined the condition of the rooms of political prisoners there.

Sharjeel Memon was admitted in Karachi Ziauddin Hospital which had been declared as sub-jail no nurse or doctor was present in the room.

The CJP inquired about the health of the former Sindh information minister and examined his room and found alcohol bottles, packets of cigarettes and drugs which the court staff confiscated.

CJP inquired from Sharjeel Memon who owns these liquor bottles. Sharjeel Memon replied these are not his bottles.

CJP summoned Attorney General (AG) remarking, "come here to see what is happening here. Pay attention to it too. I don’t think Sharjeel Memon Sharjeel Memon is ailing after seeing these things here. No treatment is being given here but only rest is being taken".

The chief justice after returning to SC's Karachi Registry remarked, "I found three bottles of alcohol from Memon's room. The attorney general should visit and see what is happening," he added.

After the CJP visit, Karachi police sealed Sharjeel's hospital room and shifted him to Karachi Central Jail.

Blood samples of the former Sindh information minister were also taken.
