NAWABSHAH /ISLAMABAD/LAHORE - The convoy of the Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh, who is also Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reportedly came under attack in Benazirabad district on Sunday.
While talking to reporters Sheikh claimed the attackers pelted stones and fired gunshots on his convoy when he was on his way to the residence of the local PTI leader Inayat Rind.
He alleged that the men belonging to Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) perpetrated the cowardly attack. The Opposition Leader complained that the SSP Benazirabad did not attend his call as he wanted to get registered a complaint.
"The PPP could not frighten me through such cowardly attacks," he said. "I will keep exposing the corruption of the PPP's Sindh government," he vowed. According PTI leader, Asad Zardari and Imran Zardari led the attack. The attackers also chanted slogans against Sheikh and his party. The police were yet to register the FIR. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib on Sunday condemned attack on convoy of Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh at Nawabshah.
In a news statement, he called upon the Sindh police and administration to take note of the incident and ensure immediate arrest of the responsible persons. Farrukh said if any relaxation was given to the responsible persons, then it would prove that the attackers were trained by the Sindh government. He accused the Sindh government of targeting Haleem Adil constantly and said they were afraid of him as he (Haleem)used to expose their corruption in the province.
Railways Minister Muhammad Azam Khan Swati also strongly condemned the attack on Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh. In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said that such incidents would never be tolerated, adding that this attack was managed when his opponents failed to defeat him in politics. Nobody would be allowed to disrupt law and order situation, he said. Fixing responsibility on the Sindh government, he demanded the culprits involved in the incident should be arrested as soon as possible.
