ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party yesterday claimed that the PPP rally in Peshawar on the foundation day broke all records.
Speaking at a news conference here, Sindh Provincial Minister for Information and Labour Saeed Ghani said that the rally in Peshawar on the occasion of PPP’s foundation day was the largest rally in history.
He alleged the rulers wanted to paralyse the Election Commission of Pakistan by threatening to withhold funds. “However, the PPP has sided with the ECP. Like (former finance minister) Hafeez Sheikh, soon Shaukat Tarin (Advisor to PM on finance) will be made a scapegoat,” he added.
Ghani said the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf-led government had taken more loans in three years than the 10 years of the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).
“This government has taken more loan in three years. Instead of demolishing people’s houses in Karachi, those who had allotted land should be punished in the local bodies’ elections. No one is ready to take PTI ticket. The government will now be ousted with support of the people,” the PPP leader said.
About the Electronic Voting Machines, he said, “No law can be imposed with which other parties do not agree. In Daska, rigging attempts were made to win the seat.”
“The government will not be allowed to be paralysed. People all over the country are crying that inflation has gone up. There is a bunch of incompetent ministers,” he added.
Ghani reminded that Prime Minister Imran Khan had made allegations against the Sindh government regarding sugar crisis but failed to nominate any mills that were responsible for the issue.
“The PM alleged that three mills in Sindh stopped production but we should be told which mills are responsible,” he maintained.
He said the current account deficit is increasing. “Last time Hafeez Sheikh was fired and now Shaukat Tarin will be fired. And then another finance minister will be fired. He will be made a scapegoat,” he remarked.
Ghani said that Sindh was producing about 70 percent of gas but there was no supply of gas in the province. “Corruption is rampant in LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). No section is safe from this government,” he contended.
He said political parties were being threatened. “Parliament has been disrespected. There are issues of encroachments in the whole country like Bani Gala and others. The country should have a uniform system,” he suggested.
Ghani said there are 50-year-old buildings in Karachi. “A committee should be formed in Sindh under the chairmanship of a retired judge. (former Karachi Mayor) Mustafa Kamal allotted 50 acres of land to the people,” he said. Ghani said that the entire cabinet including the Prime Minister had no idea about the constitution and the law. “The letter written by the Sindh Chief Minister to the Speaker of the National Assembly was not forwarded to the members. The census of Sindh is controversial. We had reservations about it. MQM (Muttahida Qaumi Movement) also objected to it but in the joint session of the parliament, they sided with the government,” he said.
